I am Board Certified in General Psychiatry as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and work with patients 0 - 65 years of age and across the diagnostic spectrum. My training as a child and adolescent psychiatrist gives me expertise in working with conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, OCD, Eating Disorders*, Tic Disorders which are more common in youth. I also have specialized training in women's and maternal mental health including issues with infertility, pregnancy and postpartum.
*Patients with active eating disorders generally require separate medical care with an eating disorder specialist (internal medicine/pediatrics) and an eating disorder therapist
I provide in-person appointments at my office in San Francisco, and virtual telehealth* services for patients located within the state of California.
*Please note that after May 11, 2023, patients being prescribed controlled substances (e.g. ADHD stimulant medications) are required to attend at least one in-person evaluation.
Initial Psychiatric Assessment: I gather information about current concerns, medical history, family history, developmental history, and combine this with my direct observations, along with use of standardized questionnaires to provide diagnoses and treatment plans. Whether this is your first meeting with a mental health professional or your 100th, I conduct a thorough evaluation and provide feedback about diagnoses, strengths, challenges and recommendations for next steps.
For adults, the assessment will generally consist of an 1 hour appointment where I am collecting and reviewing info, and one 30 min appointment where I present my assessment and treatment suggestions.
For children/adolescents, the assessment will generally consist of a 1.5 hour appointment where I am collecting and reviewing info from parents and the child/adolescent, and one 45 min appointment where I present my assessment and treatment suggestions.
Second Opinion/Consultation: Same as psychiatric assessment, but working with a referring provider
Treatment with me may include a combination of medications and/or therapy. I provide care using the best evidence-based practices available (psychiatry, as with medicine as a whole, is an evolving science). I commonly engage the use of standardized measures (questionnaires) to help track progress in treatment. I combine this science and data driven process with a therapeutic stance that views each individual's psychological needs through attachment-based, relational and psychodynamic lenses.
I believe that psychotherapy is a vital part of overall mental health treatment, and recommend that all of my patients receive some form of psychotherapy. If you do not have an existing therapist, I can provide psychotherapy and may recommend medications if indicated. If you have an existing therapist, I can provide you medication management while collaborating with your existing therapist.
I provide the following forms of psychotherapy:
Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Parent Support/Training
I currently am not an in-network provider for any insurance plans. That means that I accept payment directly and do not bill your insurance plan directly. You will be provided a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. You can also use FSA/HSA to cover the cost of my services.
